QUITE SIMPLY, an utter gem of a hole and a standout on what is an underrated parkland course perched on the cliffs at the edge of Macduff. Indeed, Tarlair might not be the most high profile of ‘royal’ clubs but in the simply spectacular ‘Clivet’ it has one of the finest holes in the country. No hyperbole- it is genuinely that good. You will find it at the most extreme point of the course but the journey is rewarded when you crest the hill from the 12th green to the 13th tee and are presented with a view that will, quite literally, take your breath away. We defy anybody to clap eyes on it and not utter ‘wow’. You play downhill towards a small green which is perched on a rocky promontory that falls sharply and steeply away to the rocks, beach and water below on all sides. The inventor of the word ‘classic ‘clearly had this in mind. She’s a beaut!"
